• The Pac-12 opened the 2016 season 4-1-6 and with eight overtime games last weekend that resulted six double-overtime ties and two wins. A top-10 matchup between #1 Akron and #9 UCLA in Los Angeles highlights the upcoming schedule. That game is scheduled for Monday Sept. 4 with a 5 p.m. PT kickoff.
• California’s Nick Lima was voted the Conference’s first player of the week for the 2016 season. Lima recorded both goals in the Golden Bears’ overtime win against Penn State, including a game-winning header in the 91’. This is Lima’s first career nod and Cal’s 29th all-time.
• The Pac-12 claims four spots in the NSCAA National Poll after week one. UCLA claims the No. 9 spot, Stanford at No. 15, California at No. 22 and San Diego State follows at No. 23.
• For the seventh-straight season, the Pac-12 Conference men’s soccer coaches voted UCLA to win the 2016 regular season. The Bruins edged out Stanford, which was No. 2 in the polling. WASHINGTON followed in third, California in fourth and San Diego State finished just ahead of OREGON STATE.
• 2015 Pac-12 Freshman of the year Jose Hernandez of UCLA is among the 14 players with All-Conference honors returning to Pac-12 rosters this season. That list includes first-team members, UCLA’s Seyi Adekoya and Abu Danladi, Nick Lima and Christian Thierjung of California, and Timmy Mueller of Oregon State competing this season.
• TopDrawerSoccer.com’s national rankings feature three Pac-12 teams after the first week of regular-season play. UCLA sits at No. 6, Stanford at No. 13, and California at No. 25.
• Twenty-eight players from NCAA Division I schools around the country have been marked as potential contenders for the 2016 Missouri Athletic Club’s (MAC) Hermann Trophy. The MAC Hermann Trophy is the most prestigious individual award in college soccer, presented annually to one male and one female athlete. Stanford’s Jordan Morris took home the honor last season. This year, the Pac-12 has two representatives on the list: UCLA’s Jose Hernandez and Abu Danladi.
• The countdown of Pac12 Networks’ 850 live event telecasts began on the pitch with a 36-game men’s soccer schedule. Each Pac-12 team appears on the Network at least 10 times (home or away) in 2016.
