SAN FRANCISCO – The Pac-12 Conference announced today the men’s soccer All-Pac-12 honors for the 2015 season, as selected by a polling of the Conference coaches. STANFORD’s Jordan Morris was voted Pac-12 Player of the Year, while his teammate Brandon Vincent was tabbed Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year. UCLA’s Jose Hernandez was voted Pac-12 Freshman of the Year. Cardinal head coach Jeremy Gunn was voted Pac-12 Coach of the Year. The All-Pac-12 teams were also announced.
Pac-12 Player of the Year – Jordan Morris, F, Jr., Stanford
Jordan Morris (Mercer Island, Wash.) is the third player in Stanford history to be named Pac-12 Men’s Soccer Player of the Year, and the first since 2001. Morris helped the Cardinal to back-to-back outright Pac-12 titles and earn a No. 8 seed in the 2015 NCAA Men’s Soccer Championship. Despite missing Stanford matches after participating in U.S. Men’s National Team games, Morris has played in 13 of Stanford’s 18 matches and has netted eight goals, to date. His mark leads the team in goals and ranks second in the Conference in points per game at 1.38. Morris takes home first team All-Pac-12 accolades in each of his three years on The Farm.
Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year – Brandon Vincent, D, Sr., Stanford
Brandon Vincent (Valencia, Calif.) defended his 2014 honor and was named the 2015 Pac-12 Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Year and is the only player to win the award since it was instituted in 2014. Vincent plays a key role in Stanford’s stout defense, helping the Cardinal maintain a goals against average of 0.64. Offensively, the 2015 Pac-12 Men’s Scholar-Athlete of the Year is a perfect 4-for-4 from the penalty spot this season and has also notched an assist. This is Vincent’s third All-Pac-12 honor and second-straight first team nod.
Pac-12 Freshman of the Year – Jose Hernandez, M, Fr., UCLA
Jose Hernandez (Mexico City, Mexico) is the sixth player in Bruin history to be named Pac-12 Men’s Soccer Freshman of the Year and first since 2010. Hernandez leads the Conference in points at 26, a mark which ranks in the top-25 nationally. The rookie has netted 11 goals, to date, with two of them coming as game winners. He helped the Bruins earn an at-large bid into the 2015 NCAA Men’s Soccer Championship, the team’s 33rd-consecutive trip to the postseason and 43rd overall appearance. One of UCLA’s three 20-plus point scorers, Hernandez has helped UCLA rank in a tie for second nationally in goals per game (2.37) and tied for fourth in total goals (45). He is one goal shy of tying the Bruin freshman record.
Pac-12 Coach of the Year – Jeremy Gunn, Stanford
In his third year at Stanford, head coach Jeremy Gunn has been named Pac-12 Coach of the Year for the second-straight year leading the Cardinal to a third-straight NCAA Tournament appearance. Gunn led a Cardinal squad that earned back-to-back outright Pac-12 titles and went undefeated at home. Gunn’s program earned a No. 8 seed in the NCAA Men’s Soccer Championship, posting a 14-2-2 overall record and going 7-1-2 in Pac-12 play. Stanford claims the 10th-best team in the nation in assists per game at 2.06, led by senior Eric Verso’s 11, the most for a Cardinal since 2002.
